Gerät für direkte Bluttransfusion

The Tzanck apparatus allows blood to be transferred directly from the donor to the recipient. It consists of a syringe with a three-way valve.
The procedure is that the donor and recipient each have a cannula (needle) inserted in a vein in the arm (in a similar position to where one would have a needle inserted when donating blood today). Blood is withdrawn from the donor through the syringe (position 1). The syringe is then rotated (position 3) where the blood is given to the recipient by emptying the syringe. Alternatively a saline wash or infusion could be used. Liquid paraffin was used to flush the valve mechanism.
The procedure could counter traumatic blood loss or shock in the short term but generally the effectiveness decreased in a very short time.
It comes in a metal case and contains all the necessary needles and tubing.
