Sauerstoffbehandlungsgerät (Alter art.)

This is a single 10 litre oxygen cylinder set. It comes self contained in a box; the upper half of the front drops down for access to the content & flow gauges and the regulator. The mask and hose are carried with the cylinder. It would have been used to assist with pneumothorax or other chest injuries, as well as removing the effects of inhaled anaesthesia (ether, chloroform).
This particular model uses the earlier metal face mask and metal covered hose. The cylinder in this example was originally proofed in Kiel in 1917.
Two of these sets were allocated instead of the later Sauerstoffbehandlungsgerät 38. This had a larger capacity pressed steel cylinder and could be used by 4 people simultaneously.
Also shown here is the spare cylinder box which contains 2 additional cylinders.
