Heeresatmer (Dräger LAR VI)
This backpack contains apparatus which allows the wearer to operate in low oxygen or poisonous environments.
It fits onto the standard issue gasmask at the front. It works by scrubbing the exhaled air through an alkali filter whilst adding pure oxygen to the air to be inhaled. It weighs 12kg and will last for around an hour. It is not suitable for underwater use.
This item is part of the equipment of the ambulance and is used when recovering casualties from burning buildings etc.
